Happy New Year – Some thoughts and Plans for 2010

2010.jpg

So, 2010 has finally come. I guess we probably won’t see Jupiter turing into a star this year, but still, it’s a pretty big milestone. 2010 promises to be interesting technology wise, if only because we will more than likely see the mythical Apple tablet finally reach reality. Also, Blu-Ray 3D should begin to make its way to consumers. As for me, I have some vague plans and ideas for the new year.

The first is switching from Ecto to Mars Edit as my main blogging client. I really liked Ecto for its formatted editing of blog posts but there are so many little issues with it and the developers seem to have stopped developing it that it’s time to change. Having spent more time with HTML lately I’m a bit more comfortable with Mars Edit’s HTML only editing view now. While it lacks some of Ecto’s features, it’s a much better piece of software overall. I’m still using the trial but I’m very happy with it so I’ll be getting a full license in a day or two.

Apple finally adds support for Nikon D300s and Canon 7D

Apple has finally added Aperture and iPhoto support for the Nikon D300s and a few other cameras including the Canon 7D. Considering the length of time the D300s in particular has been available it seems to have taken the company a long time to get Aperture support for the Camera, leading once again to frustration amongst users with Apple over the pace at which it adds new camera support. Other Cameras now supported in the update include the Eos 1D Mk IV, The Nikon D3s, The Nikon D3000, Canon G11 and the afore mentioned Canon 7D. Even if you’re not an Aperture user and you have one of these cameras (and a mac) you should download the update anyway, as it will add support to Preview and quicklook for their raw files.

Available now in your Software Update panel.

CNN Gets a Make Over

CNN.com is sporting a new design this morning. The makeover is pretty substantial and it takes on a  bold minimalist look. I have to say I like it. It’s quite strong visually. Oh, and there’s a cool animation when you first visit the site where a curtain of the old site opens to reveal the new one. It’s very nicely laid out in my opinion, and much better than the old design.
