Ingenious Power Plug Design

A uk design student comes up with an ingenious re-design of the standard 3 pin power plug. I hope this goes into production because it’s a brilliant idea. I especially like the adaptors to plug multiple plugs into one.

ProRes 4444 colors and gamma shift when working with After Effects and Final Cut Pro

If you work in motion graphics ( like me! ) you may have come across a problem when round tripping between After Effects and Final Cut when using ProRes. Luckily there appears to be a solution

From Adobe’s After Effects Blog:

If you use Apple’s new ProRes4444 codec with After Effects and Final Cut Pro, you may notice a gamma shift (i.e., colors will seem to have too much or too little contrast) when you bring the movies rendered and exported from After Effects back into Final Cut Pro.

To avoid this gamma shift, you’ll need to edit your After Effects CS4 QuickTime gamma rules XML file. This will add the appropriate gamma tag to your QuickTime files on output.

I never knew there was a way to do this so I guess this proves that you really can learn something new every day. Read the article for detailed instructions.

Adobe to Cut Over 650 Employees

From The Mac Observer:

Adobe plans to reduce its workforce by nine percent, or 680 full time employees, over the next year. The company made the announcement as part of its annual 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

I’m amazed this took so long. Since the company took over Macromedia I suspect its operations has been as bloated as its recent applications.

CNN Gets a Make Over

CNN Gets a Make Over

CNN.com is sporting a new design this morning. The makeover is pretty substantial and it takes on a  bold minimalist look. I have to say I like it. It’s quite strong visually. Oh, and there’s a cool animation when you first visit the site where a curtain of the old site opens to reveal the new one. It’s very nicely laid out in my opinion, and much better than the old design.
