The Joy of Moving

IMG_0441.JPG You may have noticed that my blog posts have been somewhat infrequent over the last week and a half. I have been distracted by the arduous task of moving apartment. While I love my new accommodation, moving your home is not something I would wish to repeat again for a while. They say moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do, and I certainly agree with that statement. It wasn’t helped by a torn muscle that meant that I couldn’t lift anything either.

The worst part though is the nonsense involved with changing your address here in Ireland. Utility companies can be difficult. Our Internet was down for little over a week (I’m amazed it wasn’t longer – but this also contributed to my lack of blogging) and I had to rely on a mobile broadband connection and some local wifi cafe’s. It is amazing the level of differences in how different companies deal with a change of address request. Some require written notification while for others a simple phone call will do. My bank is proving to be the most frustrating though. Only a few years ago you could ring up their phone banking service and they would take your details and apply it immediately to your accounts. Now you have to fill out a form and send it to your branch. Even worse though they require “proof” of your new address., I rang them to ask what they meant, and they said it could be a utility bill or a statement. Okay. The person on the other end of the phone couldn’t seem to grasp the irony of that one.

One of the cool things about moving though is getting to find all the stuff you’ve put away for some time. In particular my collection of Apple Antiques. (I use the term antique loosely) I have in my possession a first generation iPod, an iPod Photo, a 5th gen iPod, a first and second generation iPod shuffle, as well as an old usb floppy drive from the time of the original iMac, as well as a Newton 2000. It’s a real testament to Apple’s hardware and design that every single one of them are still working. I still have boxes for lots of them too amazingly enough. It’s actually amazing to see the progression of packaging design for Apple’s iPod line.

Anyway, I’m glad to be back online and back to having a connection to the world. I’m going to try and use this week to catch up on everything, but hopefully my blogging frequency will increase again.
