Bullshit comment from Gizmodo on the rumored features of the equally rumored new Nikon D5000 due to be announced tomorrow (also a rumor):

If it only records 720p, even if if the D5000 undercuts Canon’s T1i by $100, Nikon’s going to look like they’re lagging behind Canon in a bad way, and underscore the perception that they can’t match Canon’s legacy in video

I’m sorry, but Canon might be claiming the 500D (Rebel T1i) does “full” hd at 1080p but at 20 frames per second it is virtually useless as anything mnore than a line on a spec sheet, so if Nikon do 720p 24 with semi manual control (like on the D90) then it will be far superior to the crippled video on the 500D. Canon’s so called “legacy” in video is seen as far more of a liability to Canon, which many perceive to be deliberately limiting the capability of video on their DSLR’s so as not to compete with their video camera range.
