Apple Releases Camera Raw 2.4. Adds support for the 5DmkII. LX3 Aperture Support MIA.

Apple have just released an upgrade for its Camera Raw for iPhoto and Aperture to add support for new cameras, including the recently shipped 5D Mark II. What is very interesting about this is that it is released less than a week after Adobe updated Lightroom to add support for the 5DII. Apple had previously come under a lot of criticism for being slow to add new camera support to Aperture, but clearly they’re getting a handle on things.

Having said that, support for Panasonic’s popular LX3 is notably absent from this update, however this may be beyond Apple’s control. Supporting this camera may prove problematic as Panasonic are requiring that 3rd party RAW processors support the built in lens correction data by default, a decision that is causing some controversy in the Lightroom community, because there is no way to turn it off, apparently. It is not clear if the current version of Aperture or the system libraries in OSX that provide RAW decoding can handle such a requirement, so support for the LX3 may have to wait till the next version of Aperture is released.
