Farewell Phoenix, You Served us well.

Wired has a great article on the last breath of the highly popular Mars Phoenix mission. The lander which discovered ice in the polar landscape of the red planed was made into a superstar by twitter, where the team at NASA posted tweets as if from the lander itself. The little probe that could survived long beyond its original mission date and was a testiment to the hard work of the engineers behind the mission:

Originally slated for a mere 90 days near the Martian north pole, clever NASA power engineers kept the Lander doing science for nearly two months beyond that goal. But now mission officials are certain: The lander has run out of power for its internal heater and is presumed to be frozen on the arctic plane.
