Canon Finally Updates the 5D

Canon have just announced the 5D Mark II and the specs look pretty impressive. Not only is there a 21mp sensor, which I think might be a bit of overkill, but it also shoots 1080p video at 30 frames a second. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to offer the ability to shoot at 24p which is a shame, but maybe in a future upgrade. Unlike the Nikon D90 it records stereo audio and has Audio in making it quite a viable tool for Video and Indie film making. Even nicer, it uses H.264 Compression at a whopping 40mbs which gives a very clean picture. Nice one Canon. I was almost mentally prepared to switch to Nikon, but this has me reconsidering, although I will reserve judgement until I see some proper independent samples.

DpReview have some full res sample videos too and links to some sample images provided by Canon (Seriously Canon, could you not have done a bit better than that on the samples front?)

[UPDATE] They’ve also just published an exclusive hands on preview. Samples dammit, we want samples.
