Apple: iPod game buyers, re-purchase for classic, 3G nano

iLounge has confirmed with Apple that past purchasers of iPod games will have to re-purchase the titles to play them on the recently-released iPod classic and iPod nano (with video). According to an Apple representative, the games will need to be repurchased because they were “reformatted” for the new iPods.

Oh come on, Apple, what are you doing? This is record label territory. Even Sony and Microsoft made some effort for backwards compatibility when they released new consoles. I know $4.99 doesn’t seem like much but how hard could it have been to make the games functional on the new iPods. They could have at leased offered upgrades. Not a particularly consumer friendly move. Between this and some of the other moves they’ve been making lately such as regard to locking the video out and the whole ring-tones thing, Apple are showing some dangerous similarities to the Apple of old, when the mac first came out.
