iPod Touch Screen Problems
A plethora of other sites are reporting on what has to be seen as a serious problem with the iPod touch given the number of people reporting issues with the screen. At first there was some question as to whether it was just a poor quality screen, but considering the fact that some people don’t have it would imply that it is a manufacturing problem, which this report from Ars Technica seems to suggest also.
Either way this is a major embarrassment for Apple. You can understand small issues with a new device but reports of the negative black issue seems so widespread, far more than the usual glitches you expect in a manufacturing ramp up. What is even more frustrating for customers is lack of a definitive solution, or if it is actually a problem and not just cheap screens. I think Apple needs to make some sort of statement regarding this soon as people are going to put off buying an iPod touch until they can be sure that this won’t affect them. I know Apple is not the most open company when it comes to these kind of things but the complaints about the screen are as frequent and as vocal as those of the iPhone price cut, and that certainly got their attention. I for one had planned to buy one when they reach the shops here, but now I definitely plan to wait until this gets sorted out.
