MacNN | Apple TV plug-in creation kit released

MacNN | Apple TV plug-in creation kit released:

An avid Mac developer has released an Apple TV plug-in SDK (Software Development Kit) titled BackRow Developers’ Kit. The project includes the headers for BackRow framework, iPhotoAccess framework, and QuartzComposer frameworks — all of which are required to run appliance plug-ins as well as the BackRow Test application.

This is pretty cool. Now if only Apple would officially support plug ins for the Apple TV or at least give you a way to install them without having to open the box. I know people will probably say that there’s no way Apple will open it up, but given the amount of hacks floating around and the number of plug-ins being released I suspect that they might eventually. This way they retain a degree of control but also get to take advantage of a greatly expanded system without having to reinvent the wheel. Plug ins could do for the Apple TV what podcasting did for the iPod. Here’s hoping.

do you know what? I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we don’t see something pop up in the WWDC keynote on June 11th. The amount of hacks and stuff that’s gone on, as you point out, must move apple to do something. Well, we can but hope!
