Computerworld Predicts iPhone Demise before it’s even Launched

Another silly iPhone bashing article from people who just don’t get it. Basically they are saying it will be like the newton, and will fail because it is overpriced. Except there are numeurous flaws in their arguments:

“One reason it failed was that the first iteration of its handwriting recognition wasn’t very accurate and, since handwriting recognition was a new technology, it was ridiculed mercilessly by comedians and the press. But at least as big a problem was its price: $700 when it was launched.”

It may have been ridiculed, but that is not the reason it failed. It failed because Steve Jobs killed it when he returned because he didn’t like PDA’s and because he was determined to kill off a certain former CEO’s pet projects. The Newton may not have sold in huge numbers, but that was a very different time, and aside from that, there is still a thriving Newton community years after it’s death. People are far more willing to buy expensive consumer electronics now than they were when the Newton was launched.

Secondly, and a far bigger flaw – there are already numerous phones on the market which sell for that price.

Enough with the iPhone bashing everyone, please. At least wait till it comes out before you announce its demise.
