On Apple Advertising (and the reaction to it)

Something struck me earlier while I was browsing, and having had time to think about it, I’m flabbergasted at the stupidity. Everyone’s seen the Apple ads. And a whole bunch of people complained (big shock there). Some see making the PC look uncool as an insult to windows users. Frankly that’s nonsense (it’s a metaphor for god sake), but that’s not where Im going with this. Apple have sent out email ads (part of their mailing list) suggesting that if you are buying a new Computer to buy Windows, why not consider a Mac. And of course this has created another round of shock and dismay from Windows die-hards, that Apple have “crossed the line” that they are some how taking advantage of Microsoft?

Ok, since when was Microsoft in the disadvantaged position. When you are competing with a company that has 94% (roughly) share of your market, has spent the best part of it’s corporate lifetime doing everything in it’s power to pummel any competition out of existence, then in my book, any kind of advertising is fair game. Since when has Windows been hard done by or been in anything other than a total dominating position, that marketing against it’s weak points is some how unfair? Jeez, talk about insecurity.
